Growing up in North Jersey, we had the New York Daily news delivered to our home when I was a kid. I looked forward every morning to grabbing it on our stoop and immediately flipping to the back page to see what the sports headline screamed about the Yankees, Giants or Knicks. It was a source of joy, kind of a daily present. In 2010, I still get the local paper delivered, but generally log onto a major sports website to get the latest. It's getting depressing. The lead stories on ESPN dot com are about an NFL QB denying sexual misconduct allegations(again), the death of Hall of Fame DE Merlin Olson, a jury finding a defendant guilty in the shooting of another NFL player, plus the local mess with Jeremiah Masoli. Ever get the feeling that the more we know, the more bad stuff we become familiar with. I'm not in favor of living in ignorance, but every few weeks it might be theraputic to just check the box scores and ignore the other stories.
I'm going to run the risk of being a jackass. If Jeremiah Masoli is guilty of the felony charges against him he's an idiot. I understand the arrogance of youth, but college seniors are not teenagers, they supposed to be young men. I'm also pretty big on risk versus reward. A laptop and a guitar? That's worth your college career, reputation, possible professional career and maybe even his freedom? There has been much made of coach Chip Kelly's handling of the players stepping outside the law. I think most of the media coverage has been self serving garbage. Cutting loose Masoli or LeMichael James before the legal issues ran their course when it's not even football season would have been pointless. Now after some fact finding he can render a rational, intelligent decision. If either guy is guilty, they have to go away. No ladders. No 2nd chances. This would be the time to send a message. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I agree that penalty without conviction of guilit is not fair to anyone, save for some fact finding behind the scenes that may help Chip sort through it all. Though, Coach Kelly may over-react in this case (and wrongly so) and deliver a punishment that doesn't fit the crime only because of the frequency of negative events.
I was at the Boise game last Sept. and sat directly behind the Duck bench. I know he was only a redshirt freshman at that time, but Darren Thomas was engaged in trash talk, the crotch grab and other punkish things with a Boise fan just to our right. A coach at one point came over and pulled him away, but it wasn't but a few minutues later DT was turned away from the game and trash talking again with this fan.
It left a bad taste in my mouth, left an impression with me that this kid is not a leader and was not doing all he could during a game as a backup to be helping him prepare for when he gets his shot.
Just had to add that story, as a wakeup call to all these fans that think DT will step in and just become the next Dennis Dixon because of what he did against BSU his true freshman year.
I just wanted to bring my experience with Duck football players to the table. When I attended the University of Oregon a player by the name of Jackie Bates was a star defensive back for the Ducks. He had a "crew" or "gang" whatever you want to call them who would come visit from California. During these visits the group would attend parties and travel from one kegger to the next. They had a reputation for stealing items from parties, starting fights, the list goes on and on. They even had the nerve to show up to my place during a party and tried to collect money as an "entrance fee" to the party. This kind of behavior is nothing new and is not at all surprising. When you recruit from the ghetto many of the problems facing those communities travel with these players.Oh and what happened to Jackie Bates, he was kicked off the Oregon roster but the guy now plays for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL.
what do you say now? Steve you have to change your lead in song to: Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash...
Have fun with this one it is not going away anytime soon...
I think Chip will just suspend LMJ for the spring and maybe the Portland State game. That way he can enjoy the spring, maybe go to some parties, catch a few baseball games and come back refreshed and ready to tear it up. No point in coming down hard on the star.
FU Tannen you scum bag!
We thought your policy was to not take shots at local media. Evidently your disdain for George Schroeder allows you to break your own policy, you freaking hypocrit!!!
If you're going to take cheap shots at him, at least have one stone to call him out by name, you freakin puss! What a wuss you come off as.
You pollute Eugene for 3 hours a day with your arrogance and inconsistent takes -- go 'ef yourself you scum bag piece of trash!!!
Bro .. Steve is only attacking George because Mr. Shroeder is a Christian.
I've been down this road with Steve before, he can't contain his disgust for anyone and anything Christian (Tony Dungy, Kurt Warner, Teabow, Palin to name a few that he's targeted with his filth) -- he'll use something like LMJ as a front (or excuse) to release his pent up anger for George and his faith -- it's sick and disgusting that this type of hate is front and center on his show. His sponsors will not put up with this much longer! I know I refuse to support anyone that sponsors his garbage or funds money for such a disgraceful maniac.
It's sad that a man in his 50's has no tongue discipline, nor can he muster any internal resolve to keep his hate and bias against Christians off his program. It's only a matter of time before he burns his bridge with the Score - and to think he bad mouths those much younger than he that make mistakes -- he's blinded by his own hate and smallness.
George is a much better man that Steve, and will not bash him publicly in turn, it shows that Shroeder's character, repuation and manhood aren't within a mile of Steve's heart or soul.
Amiable dispatch and this fill someone in on helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you seeking your information.
